AFTER SCHOOL CLUB OFFERINGS

SPRING SESSION 2019

 

MONDAYS 2:30-3:30
 
Cooking – Mrs. Cheyne (Limit 8)
Grades K-2
Come join Mrs. Cheyne and have fun in the kitchen! Learn the basics of cooking and taste the rewards.  Each child will design their own cookbook from the recipes that they prepare.
COST: $185
($150 Extra $35 supply fee) 
 
Art-Mixed Style Class Mrs. Wood (Limit 8)
Grades K - 8 
Grades 3-8: A painting class using the works of O'Keeffe, Van Gogh, Picasso and Seurat - we will be painting with acrylics on canvas board! The techniques and styles of the artist will be explored and mimicked by the students! The students will create their own design's to be painted. Some color theory will be researched and students will have the freedom to explore the art of canvas painting to find their own painting style. 
Grades K-2: This is an art class where different media's will be explored! Painting, clay, wood and building of different projects will be researched and put into practice for creating colorful 2D and 3D works of art. Creating small shadow boxes filled with colored paint and clay birds are one example of the projects we will be designing and creating.

Kinderbox Kids Woodworking-Vanessa Augone
Grades 1-4 
Join Kinderbox Kids for a winter wonderland filled with mix media art and woodworking!! Children will use wood components in every class while painting, sculpting, drawing and building. Have fun in this class problem solving, building, creating and expressing yourself through art!
Projects include but not limited to: Boats, pencil holders, baskets, mini houses, wall hangings, peg boards, critter homes, marble mazes, flower bouquets, sculptures and much more! Enjoy coming up with your own creations too in Kinderbox Kid’s free build class!
COST: $200 including supplies
 
Dance to Code-MacInspires (Limit 10)
Grades PreK4-1
Children have fun learning what code is while developing motor skills by stepping, hopping and turning! Dance to Code! Introduces children to early coding and programming ideas without electronics. Through direction based “coding” students will step, hop and turn their way through a challenge mat! This tactile way to be introduced to coding is the perfect start before we move onto more challenging programming with a coding app and robots! Dance to Code! helps develop critical thinking, problem solving, sequential thought and more!

Floor Hockey-Rye YMCA
Grades 2-3
This class focuses on the basic beginner skills of Floor Hockey. These skills will include: shooting, dribbling, passing, offense, defense, and game play. The class provides a foundation for children's growth and enjoyment in the game of Hockey.

Golf- Rye YMCA
Grades 4-8
Learn the fundamentals of Golf. Instruction will focus on putting, drives, keeping a tally, game lay and teamwork.

Cookie/ Cupcake Decorating – Mrs. Cheyne (Limit 10)
Grades 1-3
In this fun hands-on class, your child will transform simple cookies and cupcakes into edible art.  Every week your child will prepare two cookies/cupcakes, one to eat with their friends and one to take home.  They will use a variety of icings, sprinkles and toppings.  Each week the children will chose the decorating theme for their next class. 
COST: $185

Henry and Mudge Book Club-Mrs. Grosso (Limit 10)
Grades K-2
Each week read a new Henry and Mudge book by Cynthia Rylant.  We will learn about the author and characters in the Henry and Mudge series!  We will have ‘book talks’, write in a reading journal, learn different story elements, and do fun reading activities and even do some crafts!
COST: $185

Basketball– Mr. Durkin
Grades 4-6 Boys and Girls
Classes will focus on the fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding and offensive/defensive positioning.  Mr. Durkin will use his experience in youth sports to make sure your child’s enthusiasm for the sport grows.

Mixed Sports – Rye YMCA
Grades PreK4 and Kindergarten
A great way to introduce your child to a wide range of sports: basketball, soccer, tee-ball, football, kickball and floor hockey. Classes consist of developmentally appropriate drills, obstacles and games in a fun and engaging environment!

Lego Club-Brick Kids-Linda Tedesco
Grades PreK4 -3
Science MAKE IT MOVE LAB.  Our BRICK KIDS classic building projects- made even better with the addition of movement!  We build robots with swinging arms, castles with working drawbridges; we learn about simple machines as we build them into our projects.  Learn about gravity and friction while building a marble run!

Makey Makey Conductivity-MacInspires (Limit 10)
Grades 2-3
MaKey MaKey is a simple invention kit with unlimited possibilities. Turn everyday objects into digital touch pads to combine them with computer apps and the internet! Students learn about conductivity and electricity, the key aspects that cause MaKey MaKey work. Various challenges guide students through building conductive interfaces to create art, music instruments, game controllers, engineering challenges and more! Makey Makey challenges us to think outside the box, to problem solve and come up with original solutions to fun challenges.
COST: $225 including supplies
 
Intermediate 3D Printing-MacInspires (Limit 10)
Grades 6-8
Students learn about moveable parts, print-in-place, engineering and aesthetics – all important topics for creations' functionality, beauty, and style. Print-in-place is a unique and challenging 3D design technique that allows a single print to have moving parts (instead of putting multiple printed parts together for movement). Students will also learn about 3D printing's role with prototyping in the context of today's job market. Students conceive, design, and receive 3D printed products, solutions, or components to take home and show off! Project Ideas: toys with moving parts, gift box with hinged lid and locking mechanism, model house with functional doors and windows or automatons

Tennis-Rye YMCA
Grades 4-8
This program will introduce children to the game of tennis in a fun and rewarding way. All fundamental strokes will be taught as well as mechanics of the sport. This program will focus on gross motor skills, coordination, judgment, basic stroke mechanics, and having fun! Racquets will be provided but children are welcome to bring their own from home.

Sports and Games- Mr. Taylor
Grades 3-4 boys and girls
The children will participate in a variety of sports and games such as capture the flag, steal the bacon, cats in the corner, running bases etc... The children will compete on an individual level as well as a team level.    An emphasis will be placed on following rules, playing fairly, good sportsmanship, and having fun.

Knitting/Crocheting-Mrs. Grosso (Limit 6)
Grades 5-8
Learn how to Knit and/or Crochet with Mrs. Grosso.  Children will learn the basics of knitting and crocheting and then create on some easy beginner projects!  Some project ideas we can make are:  Face scrubbers, tea/coffee warmers, pot holders, and even a scarf!  Come and have some fun learning how to crochet and knit with Mrs. Grosso!

Lego EV3 Mindstorms-MacInspires (Limit 10)
Grades 4-5  
LEGO Mindstorms EV3 allows for smooth and fun building of complicated programmable robots with our favorite interconnecting toy - Lego! MacInspires prepares students for First Lego League (FLL) challenges and values in this program. FLL is comprised of over 230,000 participants and 1,350 events involving 80 countries! Students are judged on core values, the project they have created for that year's theme, and their Robot's Design. MacInspires promotes First Lego League's signature set of core values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism. \

Gymnastics–Rye YMCA
Grades PreK4-Grade 2
An introduction to the sport of gymnastics! Learn the fundamentals necessary for floor exercise and tumbling. We focus on balance, movement, and hand-eye coordination in a fun and safe environment

Tae Kwon Do-Bruce Chung
Grades K-2 (Limit 8)
This program will introduce students to Tae Kwon Do basics such as kicking, punching and blocking. The class will incorporate a variety of exciting agility, running, and jumping activities that will increase gross motor development. Students will have fun as they work toward building focus, flexibility and group coordination skills.
